The GenBank Feature Extractor is a powerful and user-friendly bioinformatics tool designed for researchers, students, and scientists. It simplifies the process of parsing complex GenBank files to extract specific annotated features (such as CDS, genes, and others) and converts them into the simple and widely used FASTA format. Whether you are working with nucleotide or protein sequences, our tool streamlines your data preparation for downstream analysis.

Key Features
Our tool is designed for efficiency and flexibility, providing multiple options for processing your data.
- Multiple Input Methods:
- Paste Data: Directly paste the raw text of your GenBank record into the input box.
- File Upload: Upload your GenBank files (
.gb,.gbk) directly from your computer. Drag and drop is also supported. - Fetch by ID: Enter a valid GenBank Accession Number to fetch the data directly from the NCBI database.
- Specific Feature Extraction: Isolate the sequences that matter most for your research. Extract features like CDS, gene, mRNA, tRNA, and rRNA with ease.
- Instant Conversion: Quickly convert the extracted feature sequences into the multi-FASTA format, ready for use in sequence alignment, phylogenetic analysis, and other applications.
- User-Friendly Interface: A clean and intuitive design ensures a smooth workflow, getting you from raw data to usable results in just a few clicks.
How to Use the GenBank Feature Extractor
Follow these simple steps to convert your files:
- Select Your Input Method: Choose from the three available options at the top of the tool:
Paste Data,File Upload, orFetch by ID. - Provide Your Data:
- For
Paste Data, copy and paste your complete GenBank record into the text area. - For
File Upload, click the upload button or drag and drop your file onto the designated area. - For
Fetch by ID, type the accession number (e.g.,NC_045512.2) into the field.
- For
- Process Your Data: Click the “Process Data” button to begin the extraction and conversion. The tool will parse the file, identify the annotated features, and generate the corresponding FASTA sequences.
- Download Your Results: Once processing is complete, your results will be displayed in the FASTA format. You can easily copy the results to your clipboard or download them as a
.fastafile.
Supported Features for Extraction
You can extract a variety of annotated features from your GenBank files, including but not limited to:
- CDS (Coding Sequence): Regions of nucleotides that correspond to the sequence of amino acids in a protein.
- gene: A region of DNA that is the basic unit of heredity.
- mRNA (messenger RNA): A single-stranded RNA molecule that corresponds to the genetic sequence of a gene.
- tRNA (transfer RNA): An RNA molecule that helps decode an mRNA sequence into a protein.
- rRNA (ribosomal RNA): The RNA component of the ribosome, essential for protein synthesis.
